Mansi Maini

Conference Director

Mansi Maini is a sophomore at Emory University majoring in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology with a concentration in Anthropology. Mansi is the current Co-President of the AMWHO Emory Chapter and will be serving as Conference Director for the 2016 Georgia Regional Conference. Growing up in New York City, Mansi has been exposed to people of various cultures, values and socioeconomic backgrounds, which have fostered her interest towards studying Medicine and Health Policy. Mansi aspires to study Medicine as well is Public Health after her undergraduate studies to bring longitudinal systematic health policy shifts which benefit society. She has been involved with AMWHO due to her passion towards ensuring effective policies are implemented across the globe to bring healthcare towards populations in need. Finally, in her free time, Mansi enjoys Fencing and Dancing.

Somnath Das

Conference Director

Somnath Das is a junior at Emory University and is the current Co-President of AMWHO Emory. He is currently pursuing a double major in Neuroscience and Chemistry, and plans on applying to medical school in the coming year. Somnath’s interest in health lies primarily in understanding the behavioral motivations of patients as they navigate through various healthcare systems.. He got involved in AMWHO because he has a deep passion for ensuring adequate health on a global scale by giving immediate aid to populations in critical condition as well as finding longitudinal solutions to healthcare crises. He also has a concerted interest in international politics. During his free time, he enjoys reading and exercising.

Sharon Hsieh

Director of Public Relations

Sharon Hsieh is a sophomore at Emory University majoring in Anthropology and Human Biology with a concentration in pre-medical studies. Sharon is the VP of Outreach for AMWHO at Emory and will be serving as the Co-Director of Public Relations for AMWHO’s 2016 Georgia Regional Conference. Her somewhat nomadic upbringing between the US, Taiwan, and China has exposed her to the dichotomy of Eastern and Western medicine and has fostered her interest to advocate for patient-centered, healing-oriented integrative medical interventions. The fascinating interweaving of global health diplomacy, health policy advocacy, and public speaking makes AMWHO a great match to her aspirations. She looks forward to working with the Public Relations committee in hopes of creating a fulfilling and intellectually stimulating experience for the AMWHO delegates.

Sandeep Voleti

Director of Public Relations

Sandeep is the Co-Director of Public Relations for Emory AMWHO’s 2016 Local Conference. He was born and raised in New York City. He has involved himself in free health camps for uninsured patients in rural villages in India, and plans to continue his support. His interests lie specifically in global healthcare accessibility. He is a freshman at the College of Arts and Sciences at Emory University and plans on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in both Biology and Economics. He hopes to study medicine and business, and utilize his acquired knowledge to serve more underdeveloped regions in the world. He is excited to be involved in planning an AMWHO local conference to spread awareness and get people thinking about the public health issues pertinent around the globe.

Rohan Yarlagadda

Co-Director of Internal Conference Logistics

Rohan Yarlagadda is a first year student at Emory University. Rohan is originally from New Jersey and has also lived in Hyderabad, India. He serves as the Freshman Liaison on the Executive board for AMWHO Emory. An avid debater who is also studying on the pre-medical track, he feels that working with AMWHO provides him with the perfect opportunity to combine his two passions. He is also an avid reader and writer who has already published his own novel. Outside of school, he enjoys singing and playing the guitar.

Wendy Lee

Co-Director of Internal Conference Logistics

Wendy is a first year international student from Taiwan, and she is interested in studying Human Health and Psychology. With a career goal in becoming a registered dietician, she hopes to consult and educate patients with eating disorders and chronic diseases in both aspects of nutrition and psychology. Combining public health and diplomacy, she believes that AMWHO provides a stage for students like her who has a passion in making healthcare resources more sustainable and accessible to citizens all over the world. She is serving as Secretary for AMWHO Emory this year, and she is excited to make AMWHO known on campus, looking forward to the regional and national conferences that will bring students together, and eager to bond with college students in different campus chapters of the American Mock World Health Organization.

Nivedita Potapragada

Nivedita is a first year student from Bellevue, Washington, who is working towards a double major with a BS in Biology and a BA in Economics with a concentration in Health Economics while at Emory. She is very interested in the logistical and economic aspects of health care, and plans to apply these interests to a future career in medicine and public health. As part of AMWHO, Nivedita is excited to work with students from Emory and other regional universities and high schools during the conference and promoting awareness of issues in healthcare and understand possible actions to address these issues. Outside of school, she loves dancing and singing.

Ashwini Krishnamurthy

Director of External Conference Logistics

Ashwini Krishnamurthy is a first year student at Emory, born and raised in Rolla, Missouri. She currently holds the position of Freshman Liaison on the AMWHO Executive Board. With passion for community service and an interest pursuing a BBA in Finance and a BA in Human Health, Ashwini believes that her role in AMWHO gives her an outlet to combine her interdisciplinary interests in a way that allows her develop personally and professionally. As someone who hopes to pursue a career in global health care policy, she loves that AMWHO allows students collaborate, debate, and bring their unique perspectives together in the mission of creating regulations that improve the overall quality of health of people worldwide. She enjoys that through this organization.

Somin Kim

Director of External Conference Logistics

Somin Kim is a freshman at Emory University with interests in medicine, biology, and computer science. She will be serving as the 2016 AMWHO Co-Director of External Logistics for the Emory Georgia Regional Conference. Somin is a native of Palo Alto, California, and is particularly interested in biotechnology research regarding health-related issues and has pursued them at institutions such as Stanford University and Thermofisher Scientific. In addition to her interests in research, she strives to become an ophthalmologist and hopes to work with a global non-profit health organization to bring life-changing operations to children in underdeveloped countries. Somin hopes that through this conference, she and the rest of the board can bring more awareness to this issue and make an impact with every AMWHO delegate. Outside of her work with AMWHO, Somin has a passion for business marketing, playing the ukulele, and petting adorable puppies. She is extremely excited for the upcoming AMWHO experience and making it a huge success!

After immigrating from Syria to the United States due to the war, Farah found herself at Emory University building a future and lots of friendships. She currently serves as Freshman Liaison for the Emory Chapter Executive Board. Her experiences with obesity and weight loss have shaped her interest in food policy, which she believes have the strongest influence of America’s most recent and most critical epidemic of unhealthy eating. Finance Director

Gaurav Thakur is a sophomore pursuing a BBA in Finance and a BS in Mathematics. With a growing passion for the health sciences, as well as a strong interest in enhancing his financial skills, he serves as both Treasurer of AMWHO and Financial Director for the upcoming national conference. Gaurav is also an integral asset to various other organizations and companies, including co-founding the Emory Business Ethics Club, interning at Valor Connect, and participating in PwC Case Competitions along with HackATL.

Mustafa Hassoun

Finance Director

Mustafa Hassoun is one of the two financial directors for Emory American Mock World Health Organization 2016, and a freshman at Oxford College of Emory University. He plans on majoring in International Studies with a minor in Global Health, Culture, and Society. He also won best delegate UNC AMWHO 2015 for the SEARO/WPRO region, representing SAMOA. His specific interests within the sphere of global health have to do with the legal aspect of the discipline. Outside of global and public health, he loves traveling and sports. Two of his favorite destinations include Beirut, Lebanon and Madrid, Spain. In terms of sports, he has lived good portions of his life in New York and Alabama. As a result, he is a fan of teams from both areas, but above all, he says, Roll Tide, Go Knicks, and Go Mets. He is excited for the conference and cannot wait to welcome you all to Emory.​

Julia Bittencourt

Director of Public Events

Julia Bittencourt is first year student in the college at Emory University. She is originally from New York City. She currently holds the position of Freshman Liaison on the AMWHO Emory Executive Board. Julia was first drawn to AMWHO because of her love for diplomacy and international relations. As she pursues a major in International Studies and a minor in Economics, Julia aspires to go to law school and specialize in International Law. She loves that AMWHO gives her a productive outlet for her love of debate, international relations, and allows her to explore her curiosities in public health. Julia believes that she brings a unique perspective to the AMWHO community by focusing on how the interactions between different countries allows for the collective development of global health. Julia’s love for AMWHO was truly solidified at the 2015 AMWHO National Convention, where she represented the country of Costa Rica in the AMRO Region. As a sponsor of her region’s final resolution, she saw first hand how different countries vied for their needs and clashed with other states on topics anywhere from a public health workforce to an international monetary fund. Julia hopes to bring that experience to as many people as possible as the Director of Public Events for AMWHO Emory’s 2016 Local Conference.
